PENN-TRAFFORD SOCCER CLUB

Program Description

The Penn-Trafford Soccer Club is happy to offer a recreational (in-house) soccer program for children in the U6, U8, U10, U12 and U14 age classifications.  We play 2 separate seasons, one in the fall and one in the spring.  Rules for each age classification are below as well as an age chart to help you determine what age classification your child qualifies for.  To better help you, here are some frequently asked questions.  If you have any additional questions please feel free to contact us at [email protected].

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

When will the next registration period open?
Registration for Fall 2019 recreational soccer is closed.  It is possible that there are team with open roster spots available for registration.  To inquire about registering, please e-mail [email protected].  We will announce when registration is open on our website and our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/PTSoccerClub).

What are the dates for the Fall 2019 Season?
The Fall season will begin in September 7th and conclude October 26th.

What is the Eagles Program?
The Eagles Program is a partnership with other local soccer clubs to enhance the opportunity of our recreational U10+ divisions. The Eagles program provides the same level of play as our recreational program, but against a wider range of teams with other local soccer clubs. With this change, we now have added an extra year of recreational soccer play with the U14 division. This change only applies to U10 through U14. U6 & U8 remain unchanged as traditional recreational programs.  See the Eagles FAQ Section below, for more detail.

What is the cost per child?
Per child registration fees are $75 for U6 and $85 for U8, U10, U12, and U14.  There will also be a $40 Volunteer Services Fee added to each account (one per family).  There is an early bird discount of $10 if registered by August 11th.  There is an out of pocket maximum of $800 per family (per soccer year), including the $40 Volunteer Services Fee per season.

What is the Volunteer Services Fee?
To help with the rising costs and limited number of volunteers the Penn-Trafford Soccer Club implemented this fee to help offset costs associated with paying part time help.  You can earn this back by volunteering.  For more information on this please see the Volunteer Services Fee FAQ under the About Us section on our website.

How many weeks do you play?
Both the Spring and Fall seasons last for 8 weeks.

What equipment do we need to have?
All players are required to have shin guards and a soccer ball (size 3 for U6 and U8 & size 4 for U10 and U12; size 5 for U14).  Soccer cleats are recommended but not required, however no baseball spikes or open toe shoes are permitted.  Shoes with toe cleats are NOT permitted.

Where can we get the required equipment?
Any sporting goods store will have the required equipment.  We do recommend the soccer starter pack from Dick's Sporing Goods as it contains shoes, shin guards and a ball.

When are games played?
All recreational games are played on Saturday's.  Typically the U6 games are in the morning with the remaining age classifications playing in the afternoons.

Where are games played?
Games are typically played at the Bushy Run Soccer Complex located in Claridge.  See the Eagles section below for game locations for U10, U12, and U14.

When are practices?
For the U6 classification practice will be held 1/2 hour prior to games on Saturday's.  For all other age groups practice will be held one weeknight during the week.  U8, U10, U12, and U14 teams have a pooled practice for each age group, one night a week.

What if I want my child to play-up to an older age classification?
If you feel your child is not being challenged enough and would like them to "play-up" to the next age classification you may do so by completing the waiver found here.  Before giving your child approval to play up, please consider your child’s maturity, size, coordination, muscular development, attitude, and social development in comparison to the team members of the older team.  You must still register for the age classification your child is assigned and you must enter your child's correct age.  If you decide to have your child play-up please email us at [email protected] and we will move your child to the requested classification.  You will need to provide the sign, notarized copy of the waiver to your child's coach at the first practice or game as they will not be permitted to participate until we have this document due to insurance reasons.

U6 Information

The main purpose of our U6 age classification (often referred to as our pee-wee classification) is to introduce the kids to soccer.  Our co-ed teams play a 3v3 format with no goalie and do not keep score.  Games are held on Saturday mornings with a 1/2 hour practice immediately before the game.  Your registration fee will include your uniform however you must provide a size 3 ball and shin guards.  We recommend soccer cleats as well but any tennis shoe will work, just no open toe shoes or baseball spikes are permitted.

Eagles Recreational Program (U10 / U12 / U14)

What is the Eagles Program?

It is a program in which local club teams enroll their U10, U12 and U14 in-house teams to play with other local clubs.

Who participates in the Eagles Program?

This varies season to season, but typical participants are local clubs such as Monroeville, Murrysville and Plum.

Where are the games played?

Each of our teams that are enrolled in the Eagles Program will play 8 games, 4 home games and 4 away games.

How far will we have to travel?

While we won't know all the teams that will be participating until close to the season start, do not expect to travel further than our neighboring communities.

How will we know where to go?

Once the schedule is released we'll pre-populate the away game field addresses in the GameChanger app so you can navigate from your smartphone. Specific address information will also be available via our website.

Will we still play the other PTSC teams?

Yes! Each team is guaranteed to play each of their other home teams at least once.

Why did the PTSC make this change?

The PTSC like many other local clubs have been struggling for years to field enough teams for a competitive recreational program for age classifications U10 and above. With more kids playing travel soccer, we've struggled to field more than 3 teams in each age bracket for the past few years. Only having 3 teams means you play the same teams over and over and the odd number often leads to teams playing a large number of doubleheaders.

Can kids currently rostered for travel soccer play in the Eagles Program?

Yes! Eagles games, just like recreational are played on Saturday's and will not conflict with travel games on Sunday's. Also, kids currently rostered on a travel team will still get to play in the Eagles Program for free! We always encourage kids who play travel to play recreational soccer as well!

Are the rules the same?

Yes and no. The U10 rules are the same as the Eagles Program follows PA West U10 guidelines. For U12 and U14, the Eagles Program plays a 6v6 or 5v5 small sided game. The rules for the U12 and U14 small sided game can be viewed at the links below.

How do I register for the Eagles program?

Registration is the same as registering for our recreational teams. Go to our website, www.ptsoccerclub.com, and click on "Registration Info", "Available Programs". You will see the Eagles programs listed under the "2019 Spring In-House" section.

What do we have to do for uniforms?

We will use our normal recreational uniforms for the Eagles Program, so you will get a shirt and have to provide your own shorts/socks.

I still have additional questions, who can I contact?

Feel free to contact the club at [email protected] for more information or any additional questions.
